Information for Letter of Support

Project ACCCESS (Advancing Community College Careers: Education, Scholarship, and Service) is a program for early-career faculty interested in advancing the teaching and learning of mathematics traditionally covered in the first two years of college. Its goal is to develop a cadre of college mathematics faculty who are effective members of their profession. The four objectives of the project are: to assist the selected faculty to gain knowledge of the culture and mission of their institution and its students, acquire familiarity with the scholarship of teaching, commit to continued growth in mathematics, and participate in professional communities.

Fellows will attend two consecutive AMATYC national conferences where they will participate in a series of specially developed workshops with guest speakers as well as regular conference activities. Fellows are required to attend an AMATYC Affiliate meeting, MAA Section meeting, NCTM Regional meeting, or another pre-approved conference by the ACCCESS coordinator near their home institution between November of the current year and November of the following year. For the duration of Project ACCCESS, an electronic network will link the new cohort of ACCCESS Fellows with each other, all previous cohorts, as well as with a group of distinguished mathematics educators. All Fellows will develop, implement, and evaluate a project at their home institution as an integral part or their professional development experience.

Costs

What costs are paid by the applicant's home institution?

The cost is shared by the applicant's home institution and the AMATYC Foundation. The applicant's home institution is expected to cover costs of:  the applicant's transportation for two consecutive AMATYC national conferences, meals not provided by AMATYC, and the cost for the applicant to attend a local conference which occurs in the year between the two AMATYC conferences (usually held in November).

We anticipate the total institutional expense will be approximately $2000.
