PRESENTER: Brian Cafarella, Ph.D. is a mathematics professor at Sinclair Community College in Dayton. Brian has authored three books: Breaking Barriers, Students Success in Community College Mathematics, the first book to address community college math, Community College Mathematics: Past, Present, and Future, and Math Anxiety - How to Beat It!. Additionally, Brian has published in several peer-reviewed journals. Brian also serves as a reviewer for various peer-reviewed academic journals.
ABSTRACT: How can we help students conquer math anxiety? Especially math anxiety in the present day? In this session, we will explore the root causes of math anxiety. We will investigate various strategies to help students conquer math anxiety, including helping students identify their "math personalities." More specifically, how can understanding your math personality help you in math? We will take a dive into the most "hated" and feared math topics and why students despise such topics. We will also explore test-taking strategies. Moreover, we will investigate how AI can assist with math anxiety.
