Discovering the Art of Mathematics

Bring a Discovering the Art of Mathematics Traveling Workshop to your doorstep! Discovering the Art of Mathematics (DAoM) has broad experiences with teaching mathematics using inquiry in high school and college classes. Our inquiry techniques translate to a wide range of course levels, from algebra through calculus to teacher preparation.  They help empower students to actively explore and make sense of mathematics. Our free resources include classroom videos, descriptions of classroom practices and a library of 11 free, semester and/or year long, inquiry-based learning guides for mathematics for liberal arts and other general education mathematics students. See www.artofmathematics.org.

In DAoM traveling workshops you will:

  • Experience what mathematical inquiry can feel like in a mathematics class,
  • Investigate particular content areas that might connect with your liberal arts and general education students,
  • Understand and practice ways for creating a classroom environment where productive, safe, deep, and student-centered mathematical inquiry can take place,
  • Reflect on how interactions between teachers and students depend on the nature of the curriculum materials, classroom setup, and the roles teachers build for student learning.

Each workshop is tailored to the site. To inquire about a Traveling Workshop, submit the  Requesting a Workshop form.
