The American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges
(AMATYC) supports increased participation of under-represented
groups in mathematics and related fields. To address this
need, AMATYC will provide leadership in increasing the participation
of all people in mathematics and related areas regardless
of age, physical challenge, gender, race or ethnicity.
Therefore, AMATYC recommends:
- That all students be given the opportunity to develop
critical thinking skills and to increase their understanding
of mathematics and its applications.
- That all mathematics faculty be sensitive to the issues
of pluralism and diversity in their classrooms.
- That all institutions appoint, promote, and retain qualified
and diverse mathematics faculty.
- That all policy makers at the national, state and local
levels provide educational institutions the support necessary
to achieve equal opportunities for groups under-represented
in mathematics.
