AN INVITATION FOR YOUR NOMINATION

November 26, 2007
Dear AMATYC Member:

This is your invitation to nominate an outstanding mathematics instructor from an associate degree-granting institution for the 2009 AMATYC Teaching Excellence (TE) Award. First given at the 1997 Annual Conference in Atlanta to eight outstanding instructors, the award continues to be given in odd-numbered years to AMATYC members who are recognized for teaching excellence. In addition to the recognition and a medallion, each awardee receives a $500 check from Books/Cole, a part of Cengage Learning.

The 2009 awardees will be selected by the Teaching Excellence Award Committee, which includes a representative from each of AMATYC's eight regions who were elected at regional meetings at the 2007 Minneapolis annual conference. Rob Farinelli, President-Elect, is the chair of the committee and the regional representatives are: Steve Krevisky (Northeast), Louise Olshan (Mid-Atlantic), Margaret Ehrlich (Southeast), Paul Hessert (Midwest), Beverly Meyers (Central), Scott Adamson (Southwest), Lynn Trimpe (Northwest), and Froozan Afiat (West). This year's committee includes two former AMATYC Teaching Excellence awardees.

Teaching excellence is at the heart of the two-year college mission and our profession. I urge you to honor an AMATYC member who demonstrates excellence in this critical role. It is through the recognition of our best practitioners that we emphasize the importance of our profession and the professional goals to which we all aspire.

Please take the time now to honor a colleague with your nomination. The nomination deadline is December 8, 2008. Additional copies of the nomination form and answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) are available at the links above.

Sincerely,

Rikki Blair
AMATYC President
