Professor Forman has provided national leadership to mathematics
education as well as to mathematics and mathematics education professional
societies. A nominator wrote, "Although she is a fierce advocate
for two-year colleges, Susan has always looked at mathematics education
as just one piece of a bigger enterprise. It is this instinct to
reach out and make connections that characterizes her leadership
in mathematics."
The AMATYC Mathematics Excellence Award is presented every other
year to an educator who has made outstanding contributions to mathematics
or mathematics education at the two-year college. Selection criteria
include national reputation, leadership and activities in professional
organizations, awards and grants received, publications, professional
activities on a regional, state, and national scale, and other contributions
to mathematics or mathematics education.
