The American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges
was founded in 1974. It is the only organization exclusively
devoted to providing a national forum for the improvement
of mathematics instruction in the first two years of college.
AMATYC has approximately 2,500 individual members and more
than 100 institutional members in the United States and Canada.
Educators in 47 states and one Canadian province are represented
through AMATYC's 44 affiliate
organizations.
AMATYC provides professional development opportunities for
educators interested in the first two years of collegiate
mathematics instruction through an annual
conference, summer
institutes, traveling
workshops, publications
and projects.
AMATYC works extensively with other national organizations.
It is a member of the conference Board of the Mathematical
Sciences (CBMS) and the Council
of Scientific Society Presidents (CSSP). AMATYC cooperates
with the Mathematical
Association of America (MAA), the National
Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the American
Statistical Association (ASA), the American
Association of Community Colleges (AACC), the Mathematical
Sciences Education Board (MSEB), Mu Alpha Theta (MAT), and
other professional organizations.
AMATYC is directed by a 13-member Executive
Board. AMATYC members may serve on any of eight academic
committees and a host of other working committees. The
AMATYC Office is located at Southwest Tennessee Community
College on the Macon Cove Campus in Memphis, Tennessee.
