Minority Issues

  1. Campbell-Kibler Associates, Inc .
    A resource page where you can download brochures focused on increasing gender and race equity in coeducational math, science, and technology classes.
  2. The Faces of Science: African-Americans in the Sciences
    Contains biographies of African-American scientists, past and present with statistics.
  3. Key Issues
    The Math Forum's Internet Mathematics Library provides a page of selected sites and other resources related to mathematics and minorities such as African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans.
  4. Fair Test - The National Center for Fair and Open Testing
    An organization that works towards an end to the inequities in standardized testing. Includes reports on related projects, publications, fact sheets, etc.
  5. Multicultural Perspectives in Mathematics Education
    This site, maintained at the University of Georgia, is intended as both a forum and a resource for mathematics educators, who are interested in teaching mathematics reflecting contributions of many cultures and in teaching students who bring cultural diverse background to mathematics learning.

 Gender Issues

  1. Advocates for Women in Science, Engineering and Mathematics
    The mission of AWSEM is to create and support a regional network of science and technology practitioners, educators, parents, businesses and community organizations committed to the enrichment of opportunities in Science, Engineering and Mathematics for young women.
  2. American Association of University Women
    An international organization that promotes education and equity for all women and girls. Includes information about all the resources AAUW has to offer, as well as information about relevant issues.
  3. Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM)
    Founded in 1971, this organization publishes a substantial and broadly informative newsletter and a mailing list, AWM-Net. Its programs and awards include Travel Grants for Women, the Noether Lecture Series, Workshops for Women Graduate Students and Postdoctorals, the Alice T. Schafer Mathematics Prize, the Louise Hay Award, the annual Joint Mathematics Meetings and the annual SIAM Meeting, the Sonia Kovalesky high school mathematics days, and information on conferences organized by AWM. The site includes expanded versions of some newsletter articles, on-line forums on various topics, information about all AWM activities, and links to other sites concerning women and mathematics.
  4. Biographies of Women Mathematicians
    Biographies in alphabetical and chronological order, and related resources on the Web. An ongoing project by students in math classes at Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia, to illustrate the numerous contributions by women to the field of mathematics. Included are the first Ph.D.'s in mathematics awarded to women (before 1930); and prizes, awards, and honors for women mathematicians.

  6. Wellesley Centers for Women
    Includes reports on many of the Center's projects and programs, as well as an extensive list of their publications which can be ordered online.
  7. CEEE GirlTECH Home Page
    A two week teacher training at Rice University in Houston, Texas, in which participating teachers receive intensive technology training and explore innovative teaching strategies that impact gender equity in the classroom. Training materials are available on site.
  8. Equity and Access in Mathematics Forum
    Comprehensive list of sites related to equity in math and science.
  9. Equity New Jersey
    Offers information on gender and career equity programs as well as sexual harassment, diversity issues, single parenting, school to work, nontraditional and vocational education.
  10. Equity Online (WEEA)
    The national Women's Educational Equity Act (WEEA) Equity Resource Center works to improve educational, social, and economic outcomes for women and girls. Materials on Title IX; Women of the Week; EDEQUITY discussion list; Publications; Student Associates; Web links. Also on online course: Engaging Middle School Girls in Math and Science.
  11. Exploring Your Future in Math and Science
    Encouraging Women in the Sciences: the Women and Science page of the WWW. As part of the final project for a Women's Studies course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, students explored reasons why women are less likely to enter professions in math.

  13. Girls' Attitudes, Self-Expectations, and Performance in Math
    For those concerned about girls' negative attitudes and expectations in the study of mathematics who want to improve and increase girls' performance and learning in math: an annotated bibliography of articles and studies designed to give teachers and parents insight into the ways in which they can improve girls' attitudes and performance in math
  14. The Math Forum--MathLibrary--Women
    The Math Forum's Internet Mathematics Library provides pages of selected sites and other resources related to women in mathematics and equity issues in education.
  15. The National Coalition For Sex Equity In Education
    This coalition works to provide leadership in equity education on issues including, but not limited to gender, race, disability, national origin, religion, and sexual orientation.
  16. The National Institute for Women in Trades, Technology & Science
    IWITTS is dedicated to integrating women into non-traditional careers by providing training, technical assistance and publications to the education system and employers.
  17. Weaving Gender Equity into Math Reform
    A project designed to assist staff developers, curriculum writers, and workshop leaders in expanding the equity content of their workshops, videos, and written materials for teachers. The project investigates the specific question of gender equity in math reform and the larger equity issues that reforms pose for students from various academic, socioeconomic, and linguistic backgrounds. The site includes articles on equity in education, and annotated list of research articles, books, and electronic resources, a list of equity workshops around the U.S., and links to other organizations concerned about equity in education. See, in particular, the Equity Challenge of the Month.
  18. Women and Mathematics Network
    A consortium of Directors of outreach programs in mathematics for women and girls, providing professional development opportunities for program directors; forums for sharing ideas and expertise; workshops and forums for prospective directors of such programs. The site offers information on events of interest and links to Web resources (books, careers, gender equity, grant activity and opportunities, K-12, resources, sister organizations, mathematics history, women mathematicians, etc.).
  19. Women in Mathematics (WIM)
    Although this site is an organization at the University of Maryland College Park dedicated to the needs of women mathematicians at UMCP, check out their collection of electronic links oriented towards women.
  20. Women in Technology at the Vermont Technical College
    The WIT project at VTC is committed to encouraging young women in middle school and high school to study math, science and technology and to explore opportunities for careers in these fields. Through Summer Technology Camps, Speakers Bureau, and many other programs, the project tries to help girls, parents and teachers dispel stereotypes and overcome barriers to girls' educational and career success. The site contains links to resources for women in math , science, and technology, gender equity resources, teachers, especially for girls, women in history, in the news, telementoring, and educational resources for girls.
  21. Women in Technology International
    The WITI foundation is dedicated to advancing women in technology, helping women be more financially independent and technologically literate, and encouraging young women to choose careers in science and technology.
