encouraging problem solving with middle school students. Find
many math challenges that involve using concepts and objects found
in everyday life--how fast your heart beats, what shape holds
the most popcorn, how much of me shows in a mirror, for example.
Each challenge has an initial problem with hints, a complete explanation
of the answer, and related problems around the same challenge.
Resources for further investigations are suggested.

various institutions are often isolated and have little information

on Professional Development) has started a web page, a mailing
list, and other activities.

The lessons, activities, and other materials at this site are
designed to enable mathematics educators (especially teachers
of PreAlgebra and remedial math classes) to integrate technology
into their everyday teaching. Strands within the site deal with
tools such as spreadsheets, calculators, and presentation software.

of lessons and activities that are intended to blend mathematics
with writing and make use of mathematical reasoning in other content
areas such as social studies.
