The Abacus: The Art of Calculating with Beads
At this site you will find information on abacus construction, history, and comparisons of abacuses from different cultures. There are also instructions for how to use the abacus. One can even play with and learn from an interactive abacus.

Online Calculator Sites

  • Calculator.org:  Calc is a  popular engineering, scientific and financial calculator for Windows. The calculator includes functions for statistics, use of different number bases (binary, octal, hexadecimal and base-n), metric units conversions and physical properties and constants. It online and Windows PC versions.
  • Calculate For Free: Hundreds of free online calculators for home, business, and school.
  • Home and Garden Calculators: This site is a companion site to the Home and Garden cable network. It will help calculate amount of fencing, grass seed, paint etc. needed for different projects around the home.
  • Math.about.com has a series of online calculators for various mathematical needs: checking for prime numbers or finding factors, computing factorials, and many more.
  • Online Calculators for Engineering: This site offers free resources for technicians and engineers including a free online units-calculator, water properties resources, Interactive Elements table, a kVAR online calculator, a voltage drop calculator, a Darcy Weisbach friction calculator, and much more.
  • Online Unit Conversions: This site has a conversion calculator that will help you compare related quantities with different units. Simply select the category that best describes your measurement and choose the original and converted units.
  • Martindale's Calculators On-Line Center: This site contains over 21,985 online calculators, all for free!  They include everything from automobiles to stocks; including mathematics, statistics and engineering.
  • The Sciences Explorer: Five calculators: Compound Periodic; Compound Continual; Growth / Decay Rate; Half-Life Decay; and Constant Growth.
Graphing Calculators Software
  • Guide to Available Mathematical Software: This is a gateway to the NIST Guide to Available Mathematical Software, a cross-index and virtual repository of mathematical and statistical software components of use in computational science and engineering.
  • Maple's Student Center: Provides resources for students including a Maple tutorial.
  • Mathematica's Resource Library: Includes a number of resources that document various capabilities of Mathematica including quick tips, FAQ's, user-submitted MathSource notebooks, detailed tutorials, and more.
  • Pedagogy using Mathematica through the Web: A paper that deals with MathServ, a web-based technology and the use of technology to teach complex economic models without having to learn the models themselves.
  • Minitab Resource Center: Provides links to white papers on teaching statistics, step by step tutorials, and other pages.
  • Software Sites: Sites provided by the Math Archives that can be used in the K-12 classroom.

  • Casio Education Link: Offers links to downloadable programs, information on workshops, and a contest aimed at challenging math students from Elementary School through High School.
  • Intel Innovation in Education: Intel Innovation in Education effort is a global, multimillion dollar effort to help realize the possibilities of science and technology in education.
  • Information and Communication Technology in Education Home Page: This page is devoted to information and communication technology in education.
  • Math Education and Technology: This site is for all students, teachers, and researchers interested in mathematics. IES inc. was established by people involved in mathematics education. IES deals with research, development, import, and sales of software for mathematics education. As well as creating software and offering information from all over the world.
  • Math Magic: Math Magic MathMagic is a K-12 telecommunications project which provides strong motivation for students to use computer technology while increasing problem-solving strategies and communications skills. MathMagic posts challenges in each of four categories (k-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12) to trigger each registered team to pair up with another team and engage in a problem-solving dialog.
  • Tools For Understanding: The lessons, activities, and other materials at this site are designed to enable mathematics educators (especially teachers of the intermediate and middle grades) to integrate technology into their everyday teaching. Strands within the site deal with tools such as spreadsheets, calculators, and presentation software.
