MU ALPHA THETA
At the Fall Board Meeting, AMATYC became an official sponsor
of Mu Alpha Theta.. Mu Alpha Theta is a national mathematics
honorary society for high school and two-year college students
that was founded in 1957. It is sponsored by NCTM, MAA, SIAM,
and AMATYC. MAT was formed to engender keener interest in
mathematics, to develop sound scholarship in the subject and
promote enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year
college students. There are no annual dues for the chapters
and students need only pay a one-time initiation fee fo $5.00
for full membership.

A two-year college student is eligible for Mu Alpha Theta membership
if
- that students was a high school member, or
- that student has at least one mathematics course at
or above the College Algebra/Precalculus level at a two-year college,
a 3.5 GPA overall in all two-year college mathematics courses
at or above the College Algebra/Precalculus level, and a 3.3 cumulative
GPA in all courses.
