Welcome to AMATYC!

AMATYC - "Opening Doors through Mathematics" as the only professional organization whose goal is the improvement of mathematics education in two-year colleges in the United States and Canada. If you are already a member, then you are aware of the many activities and resources that membership provides and we look forward to seeing you at the next annual conference, November 12-15, 2009, in Las Vegas, NV.

If you are not a member, please take a moment to review the numerous AMATYC activities and publications for members listed below. You are sure to find a professional development opportunity with a direct focus on the teaching and learning of mathematics in the two-year college that will engage you and your colleagues.

  • AMATYC offers quality professional development opportunities including Traveling Workshops, Summer and Winter Institutes, and a great annual conference each fall.
  • The new journal, MathAMATYC Educator, and AMATYC News provide you with peer-reviewed articles and news from across the continent as close as your mailbox.
  • Through its second standards document, Beyond Crossroads, AMATYC presents a vision for quality mathematics instruction in the first two years of college, as well as strategies for implementation of messages in AMATYC's 1995 Crossroads document.
  • AMATYC committees keep members in touch between conferences. They provide a forum on a specific area of interest that allows you to discuss important issues such as assessment, dual enrollment, placement, and access for all.
  • AMATYC provides a voice in the mathematics community through participation by the President or other members in the Conference Board of the Mathematical Sciences, Mathematical Science Education Board.
  • AMATYC represents you at the American Association of Community Colleges by recommending members to serve on AACC commissions and by sponsoring a booth at their annual conference. Members who staff the booth talk with your administrators in an effort to support you.
  • The AMATYC Delegate Assembly provides a forum where position statements are discussed and approved. Position statements illuminate the beliefs of AMATYC and provide you with support and direction as you make changes at your college.

The benefits for you, your students, and your colleagues of membership in AMATYC are many. Please consider this your personal invitation to join AMATYC. I look forward to meeting you at the next AMATYC annual conference.
