November 1-4, 2007 brought more than 1,100 persons to Minneapolis to enjoy the beautiful weather, the Mall of the Americas and, of course, the 33rd annual AMATYC conference.  If you were able to attend the conference, we hope you enjoy the memories that these photos will surely invoke.  If not, we hope you enjoy them and they encourage you to attend the next conference in Washington, D.C.

Unless otherwise noted, names listed are left to right.  If you are pictured without your name, please send your name and description of the photo to web@amatyc.org, and this page will be updated.

Putting on a four-day conference requires a lot of advance work.  Long before the conference, two local events committees began their work.  Immediately before the conference, the board starts meeting for several long days.

Committee chairs also meet with the Board.  Klement Teixeira, Jesse Williford, Ernie Danforth, Frank Wilson, Ed Gallo, Jack Rotman, and Darlene Winnington.

Imagine storing and then moving all the boxes of conference bags and give-aways.  Keven Dockter, Minneapolis Local Events Coordinator, did that and much more!

Breakfast on Friday goes with a meeting with other members from the same region.

Friday began with regional breakfasts led by the eight regional vice presidents.  The rest of the day light hours were filled with great sessions at which members enjoyed laughing and learning.

Bright and early on Saturday morning, Dan Kennedy brought us insight into mathematics and Hollywood focusing on his year with NUMB3RS.  Los Angeles City College students were awarded plaques as members of the Top 2007-2008 SML Team.

Half-asleep with only coffee to fortify them, the Local Events Committees gathered long before 5 am to place the decorations and gifts for attendees.

At the end of the day on Saturday, the Delegate Assembly meets to conduct the business of AMATYC.  In 2007, after hearing a number of reports, Delegates voted to approve the position statement on “The Use of Technology in the Teaching and Learning of Mathematics,” and to retire the “Computer Education Position Statement,” “Position Statement on Instructional Use of Technology in Mathematics,” and “Position Statement on Use of Internet Resources to Enhance Mathematics Instruction.”  At the end of the meeting, Mowers ceremonially passed the gavel to Rikki Blair, 2007-2009 AMATYC President.

On Sunday morning, November 4, 2007, following sessions, members gather for the Closing Session.  It is at this session that the gavel is officially passed.

The NOLA Local Events Committee donated an unworn Mardi Gras Polo shirt to the Foundation who held a silent auction.  Alice Kaseberg had the winning donation offer.  Thanks, Alice!
