The Rocky Horror Show
Sept 18 - Nov 25, 2007
Gothic meets modern bizarre in spectacular stagecraft designed with a
sexy flair. An outrageous assemblage of the most stereotyped science
fiction movies, Marvel comics, Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello
outings and rock 'n' roll of every vintage. Running through the story is
the sexual confusion of two middle American Ike-age kids confronted
by the complications of the decadent morality of the 70’s.

| Triple Espresso at the Music Box Theatre (www.tripleespresso.com) |
 |
Triple Espresso--a highly caffeinated comedy is about...
- Three guys
- A coffee house
- An utter lack of common sense
- Climbing the ladder of success, downwards
- Dust storms in Nebraska
- Dancing in Zaire
- Things that disappear...and reappear
- A gorilla in a music contest
- Hand shadow puppets
- The single most embarrassing moment ever broadcast on live national television
- The funniest show you will see this century!
Triple Espresso tells the story of three guys whose bid for showbiz fame and fortune ended in 4-
minutes of magnificent failure on national television. Hugh Butternut, Buzz Maxwell, and Bobby
Bean tell their rags-to-rags story earnestly, with hysterical results. Butternut is a musician, a
vulnerable soul with a lounge lizard smile; Maxwell is an uncertain magician with an attitude;
and Bean is an irrepressible, all-over-the-map entertainer with big dreams. The laughter is
infectious and the comedy appeals to everyone from first graders to college students to babyboomers
to grandparents.
Triple Espresso plays continuously at the Music Box Theatre in Minneapolis which is located
one block south of the conference hotels, the Hyatt Regency and The Millennium. Group
discounts are available for groups of 12 or more. Call (612) 874-9000 for group prices or visit

| The Mixed Blood Theatre (www.mixedblood.com) |

By Sarah Ruhl
Directed by
Stan Wojewodski, Jr.
Oct 19 – Nov 18,
2007
At Mixed Blood’s
Alan Page Auditorium |
From MacArthur “genius grant” recipient Sarah Ruhl, a poetic
playwright with the gift of gag, comes The Clean House, a play with
kaleidoscopic sensibilities that takes the simple tasks of housecleaning
and joke-telling and gives them transcendental levels of meaning. This
fast-moving, compassionate comedy revolves around Matilde, a maid
(who hates cleaning) on a mission to find the perfect joke (her parents
were the funniest people in Brazil). Her presence leads to the amazing
transformations of a household, of disconnected women, and of classes
while arguing that the best things in life — a sublime joke, a fulfilling
purpose, a soul mate, even a satisfactory death — are infinitely worth
waiting for. A 2005 Pulitzer Prize finalist!

Dancing at Lughnasa
by Brian Friel
directed by Joe Dowling
September 22 – November 25, 2007
Brian Friel’s Tony Award-winning play recalls the story of five unmarried sisters, one with a
young son, in a small village in Ireland in 1936. Told through the son’s memory, Dancing at
Lughnasa gloriously captures the spirit and strength of a family struggling to make ends meet,
but celebrating life, nonetheless, through their shared love of dance. Friel’s extraordinary play
was hailed by Time Magazine as “the most elegant and rueful memory play since The Glass
Menagerie.”
Group tickets for the Guthrie (20 or more) go on sale by fax on June 4 and by phone on June 7.
Pricing and performance times are available at the website above.

This is a firecracker of a show. Josefowicz is charismatic and a powerful presence on stage. A
soloist of daring and verve, she plays one of the most exhilarating new concertos of recent years.
Cherubini was one of the few composers Beethoven confessed to admiring - his march was
played at Beethoven’s funeral. Schubert’s Symphony No.3 is an utter delight–full of great tunes
and superb showmanship.

Museums
Science Museum of Minnesota (www.smm.org)
A Day in Pompeii
In 79 A.D., the city of Pompeii, a popular vacation destination of the Roman Empire, was frozen
in time by the massive eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The volcanic ash that buried the city
preserved its final moments, making Pompeii one of the world's most complete archaeological
sites. The clues that scientists have uncovered from the site give us a precious glimpse at what
life was like thousands of years ago, and this summer, some of those clues will be making their
way to the Science Museum. A Day in Pompeii, an extraordinary exhibition about the rich
culture, spirituality, and day-to-day customs of the people of ancient Pompeii, is on display
during the AMATYC conference.
Pompeii features priceless artifacts that tell the story of a city—and a period in time—that is
steeped in legend and mystery. You'll see wall-sized frescoes, marble and bronze sculptures,
coins, jewelry, and other items that have been recovered from beneath hardened volcanic
materials and sealed for over 17 centuries in a virtual time capsule. In addition, you'll have the
opportunity to see several casts of the human victims of the Vesuvius eruption. Together, these
artifacts provide a powerful and moving portrait of a thriving ancient city and a fateful moment
in time.
Look for a discount pass in your conference bags.
